Where are you reading in the bible in YOUR quiet times?
I've been reading the psalms mostly, to learn more about who god is.

I have been reading Acts and 1 Samuel.
First, 1 samuel. Wow, it is a real eye opener for consequences. Normally, i wait to repent until a consequence is involved. Thsi si wrong, and 1 Samuel exemplifies that. It as really helped me.
Acts, I love this book. How the church came together and the Holy Spirit worked in them. It is ultra provoking in how much faith they had in God! They truly lived their lives for Christ and carried their cross every day!
I am also reading disciplines of Grace. Just started, but it is really good.
I want to read also: Heaven by Randy Alcorn The Gospel for Real Life.
so ya.

psalm 91 14-16 says:
14 "Because he loves me," says the LORD, "I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.
15 He will call upon me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him.
16 With long life will I satisfy him and show him my salvation."
VERY cool

The apostles had just been arrested and tried by the phariees and the sahedrin. Thye had just ben beaten.
Act 5:42 and when they had called in the apostles, they beat them and charged them not to speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go. Act 5:41 Then they left the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer dishonor for the name.
very convicting for me this morning. I put myself in THEIR place. Would I be rejoicing for being beaten? How would I react if i really was persecuted?

This is what I've been reading:
- Today I finished "Sovereign Grace and the Glorious Mystery of Election." I picked it up at church on Sunday because it looked good. - Rereading "The Holiness of God" by R.C. Sproul - "Bible Doctrine" - Selections from the "Humility" book (CJ Mahaney) - "90 Minutes in Heaven" by Don Piper (or was it John Piper?) - IT'S A MUST READ!!! - The Bible (of course); I've been attempting to widen my knowledge of the Old Testament. So lately I've been reading a few chapters in Isaiah, 2 Kings, and Hebrews in the NT.
Sometimes when I wake up, I'm really not in the reading mood. So what I do is pray first, ask the Lord to help me focus and learn a lot and stuff. By the time I'm done, my eyes are adjusted so I begin to read. Lately I've been having longer quiet times because I found that I need them to get me through the day. Today was a short one though; unfortunately it went for about 50 minutes (because I had math at 8:00). The Lord's really been wetting my appetite for scripture and books lately. Also a lot has been on my mind because of Jacob. But reading 90 mins in heaven really seems to calm me down - knowing that's where he's going.
That's what's been going on with me lately.

Well, i finished reading The Gospel for Real Life recently and would definately recommend it to everyone to read!!! it really opened my eyes up to exactly what Christ accomplished on the cross and also helped me realize a little bit more of the depth of my sin and how grateful i should be. needless to say, it was very encouraging and challenging. I've been reading in Genesis, as well as 1 Corinthians and 3 John. I love reading Genesis and getting a new look at all the stories i grew up hearing. Joseph's faith in God when his bro's betrayed him has particularly helped me to make a bigger effort to completely trust in God and his sovereignty. oops, i'm outta time, so i'll add more later maybe.

Wow. That is awesome johnny. i have read most of bible doctrine. That book is deep, yet barely skims all of God! That is what i find so amazing. That book has really opened my eyes to lots of things. One of it was the thing he stressed about reading the Bible. Opening up and Reading the Bible is like talking to God face to face!! I just thought that was pretty cool and has been a good motivater to jump into his word.
